Ramanagram

Picturesque hill, at one time fortified (4km from Ramanagaram) is in the left bankof the Arkavati. The fort is ascribed to the Kempegowda’s family. The hill has anoverall height of 3,066 feet from the MSL. The surrounding villagers used to refuge in this hill fort on attack by enemies. This hill is called Ramadevara betta or Ramagiri as the hilltop has a sri Rama temple.To reach the hilltop there is a flight of steps laid of late. There are in all 450 steps having gradual gradient. There are three stone gateways through which one has to pass before reaching the top. The rock called Karkhane bande has a subscription on it. Only two names Bendinapy prasara and Veerana are identified.

These hills when viewed from B’lore side appear like a conical ‘Kumbhi’ having a lofty height. The hill, it is said, was once the residence of the palegar and a spot is slow as the one where rich treasures were located. Atop the hill, amidst rocky surroundings, is a flat valley having a deep rocky kalyani.

The hill is full of bears. Behind the hill on the other side, are some caves and some small dolmens of pre-historic times.


Curriuclum

    Introduction - theoretical: climbing equipment (harnesses, karabiners, figure eight, and ropes, belaying devices), basic information about safety (communication between two climbers - climbing calls), rules of behavior at artificial walls, basic knots, types of belay.

    Working on boulders - introduction, forms of bouldering, climbing games, organization of a climbing lesson. Bouldering as a training form for improvement of climbing skills, training of strength skills.

    Rappelling - Rappelling is a means of descending by sliding down a rope.

    Face climbing - Face climbing is the classic form of climbing on rock. It is similar to climbing a ladder. This greatly impedes progress, reduces our scope of vision, and often causes an outward pressure on the feet, increasing the chance of their slippings

    Sample Itinerary


    • 06.45 a.m.- Departure from Bangalore.
    • 08.00 a.m.- Introduction to Rock climbing and bouldering.
    • 10.30 a.m.- Rappelling
    • 01.30 p.m.- Lunch break
    • 02.30 p.m.- Chimney Climbing
    • 03.45 p.m.- Face climbing
    • 05.30 p.m.- Course end, return to home
