Ombattugudda is known as "Murkal gudda" at the periphery of Hassan district and South Canara district. The name in kannada depicts as "Ombattu"-nine,"gudda" - hill humps. It is around seven hours drive from Bangalore, near Gundia Check post. It is amidst Kabinale Reserved Forest and the border of Shiradi Srisla Reserve Forest and Balur Reserve Forest
It rises about 971 mtrs above sea level, never mistake this as highest mountain range of western Ghats in Karnataka; "Mullayanagiri" is the highest mountain range in Karnataka.
The animal habitat are Tigers, leopard, jungle cat, barking deer to gaur and, of course, the wild elephant. As this forest is densed with plantations like Bamboo, Sal, Rose wood, Mahagony, Teak etc.
The trek to Peak is around 13kms, first few kilometre there is a jeep track, then trek begins by crossing kabbinale river, then walk through the forest, as it is not well trekked path hence there are lots of deviations on the trek paths.
